Equity audit: The touchpoint test

By Brooke L

Not all branded products are created equal. Here’s how to tell if yours are doing more than just taking up space.

Usage

Is it actually being used? If it’s not being worn, carried, or reached for, it’s not doing its job. Great branded products live in real life, not just in onboarding kits.

Taste

Does it reflect your brand’s aesthetic? Every detail matters: material, font, artwork, finish. If your product doesn’t match the quality of your brand, it creates a disconnect.

Desirability

Would someone want to buy it? If it wouldn’t sell on a shelf, it probably won’t turn heads. Branded goods should feel more like product than promo.

Purpose

Does it serve a function? The best merch is useful and memorable. Whether it solves a problem or sparks a moment, it should add value (not clutter).

First impression

Does it feel great from day one? No "breaking in" required. The best pieces feel instantly good...familiar, effortless, and worn with pride.
